    Bobby and Debbi Rakes of Lebanon and Terry and Michelle Wooley of Campbellsville announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Donna Wooley Thomas to Jason Bradley Mudd, son of Mike and Betty Lou Mudd of Springfield.

    The wedding will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 22, 2008 at the Holy Trinity Parish Center in Fredericktown.

    All friends and relatives are invited to attend.

  • Commanders scrimmage, prepare for Madison Southern

    The 2008 Washington County High School Commanders football team held its annual Blue/Gold scrimmage game this past Friday. The players looked good on both sides of the ball during the intra-squad scrimmage. But that was against their own teammates, not against a rival school looking to do some damage. The Commanders are young and the schedule is tough, and the first five weeks of the season will be a trial by fire.

    St. Catharine College head basketball coach Wade O'Connor is leaving to take the position of assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C. O’Connor accumulated a 94-29 record in four seasons as Patriots head coach.

  • Burton new Patriots head coach

Burton, a Washington County native and former head girls' basketball coach at Washington County High School, was named head coach of the St. Catharine College Patriots mens' basketball team on Aug. 11. Burton replaces Wade O’Connor, who recently left to become top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Western Carolina University. See related story on O'Connor in the Sports section.

    Tracy Hood and Casey Purdom of Springfield announce the birth of their daughter on May 30, 2008 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

    Sophia Nicole Purdom weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20.5 inches in length.

    Bobby and Christy Bishop of Versailles announce the birth of their son on June 4, 2008 at St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington.

    Sandra Davis was browsing through a Louisville bookstore recently, searching for books about Kentucky and options for vacations around the commonwealth. She came across a book titled, “1,000 Places to See Before You Die.” As chair of Springfield’s newly formed tourism commission, Davis quickly started searching for any connection to Kentucky. What she found was even more surprising and exciting.

  • Free home games for WCHS students

    Parents of Washington County High School students could feel some economic relief thanks to a new student sports pass program this school year.

    A $4,000 grant from the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse Policy will allow WCHS students to attend regular-season home games free of charge this school year.

    Jill Settles, the vice-chair of the Washington County Heartland Youth Coalition, said the passes should be issued to students later this month.
