Knights of Columbus Bingo
Bingo is played every Wednesday night at Knights of Columbus, Bardstown Road in Springfield. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m. All proceeds go to support Knights of Columbus Council 4270 charities.

DAV Transport
The Disabled American Veterans transport van leaves Lebanon every Monday and Thursday. Veterans who wish to ride should be at the Lebanon McDonald’s by 7:15 a.m. The van also stops at the Springfield Hardee’s and the Bardstown Burger King. Riders need to set up medical appointments through the VA before they ride. To schedule an appointment, they should call (502) 780-3247. They should notify the DAV transport coordinator before they ride. Veterans who wish to ride on the Lebanon van Mondays or Thursdays should call Frank Bland at (270) 692-5568. There is no charge for riding the van.

Driver Licensing
The Division of Driver Licensing has discontinued printing and mailing of renewal reminder cards. CDL renewal reminders will still be mailed. Federal law mandates this.

Accepting Used Sporting Equipment
Springfield Presbyterian Church Mission Store, Heavenly Treasures, is accepting used sporting equipment to be donated to needy children. Donations may be dropped off at the store on East Main Street in Springfield, next door to the church, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  

Farmers Market at the Depot
The Farmers Market is now open and continues through the end of October. The market hours are every Saturday 8 a.m. - noon and Wednesdays 3 to 6 p.m.  For more information call (859) 336-5440.

Oct. 11-13
Hydrant Flushing
The Springfield Water Company will be flushing hydrants throughout the city on Wednesday, Oct. 11, and may extend into the county Thursday, Oct. 12, and Friday, Oct. 13. This may cause a temporary discoloration of the water. We ask that you refrain from washing clothes or any use that the discoloration may affect.

BBQ Fundraiser
The Caring Place presents a barbecue Friday, Oct. 13, at Lebanon Kroger parking lot from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Cattlemen’s Association will be cooking plate lunches with ribeyes and burgers. Deliveries will be made for a minimum of 10 orders. Please call (270) 692-9300 with any questions. Proceeds benefit the women and children of domestic violence.

Free Health Screening
Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring a free health screening on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Danville.  The free screenings will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon.  Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended.  Appointments can be made by calling (859) 236-6964 after 4 p.m. between Oct. 6 and 13. Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, heart rate, body mass index and stroke risk scorecard.  After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional. Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel.  This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose.  Medications except for diabetic medications may be taken with water. The screenings are open to the public for anyone 18 years of age and older.

Auction and Chili Supper
The Redemption Point Church of God youth will have an auction and chili supper to benefit youth ministry on Saturday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. The auction will be at the church, 2527 Hwy 555, Springfield. Donkey Basketball
Mackville Community Development presents Buckeye Donkey Ball on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Mackville Community Center. Concessions open at 5:30 with the game beginning at 7 p.m.  Tickets may be purchased at Mackville State Bank or from any community development board member, or at the door. All proceeds go to Mackville Community Development.

Free Flu Shots

New Pioneers for a Sustainable Future and St. Dominic Church in Springfield will co-host the next public forum of the NP Moving Forward series:  “Can We TALK? Back Yard Workshops
New Pioneers introduces a fun, family-friendly and practical new series, Back Yard Workshops, an opportunity for families, couples, and individuals to have fun and learn interesting things together outdoors. The first session, “All About Bees,” will be led by local beekeepers Dave and April Donathan on Saturday, Oct. 28,  morning from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.  Children who are able to listen to and follow instructions are welcome. Halloween in Mackville
The City of Mackville will host trick or treat for children age 12 and under on Tuesday evening, October 31, from 5 to 7 p.m.  Participating residents will turn on their front porch lights.
