The State 4-H Centennial Kickoff Bash is set for Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Lexington. All past and current 4-Her’s, volunteers and community leaders are invited to the kickoff event for the year-long celebration.
Anyone interested in attending may register on-line or may ask to be registered on-line through the Washington County Extension Office. The Centennial Web site is http://www.ca.uky.edu/agcolleg/4h/centennial/ and the online registration is at the top of the page. The cost of the day’s event is $10 which includes a reception at 10 a.m., the luncheon at 11:30 a.m., door prizes and other activities leading up to the cake cutting at 4 p.m. For anyone wishing to go for the afternoon activities only, the cost is $2. The deadline for registration is Feb. 13.
Anyone planning on going to the Kentucky/Tennessee game on the 21st could combine the two activities. For those making their own reservations, please contact the Washington County Extension Office to let us know you are attending.
Each week, a past photo from the Washington County 4-H archives will be included in The Springfield Sun. Many of the photos do not have a listing of who is in the photo and what 4-H activity was being documented and what year the photo was taken. On those weeks we are asking for anyone with the information to contact the extension office at 336-7741. Sometimes, like this week, we may know who is in the photo but still not know what activity for which the photo was taken. The first person to provide that information each week will be presented with a 4-H Centennial pen and pencil.
We are also looking for old photos to run in the newspaper and to use for our local celebration that will be announced very soon. We would only need the photos for a short time in order to scan them into the computer. Any memorabilia that would document past events and activities, especially 4-H Camp, would be welcome so photos can be taken and records kept.
Next week watch for the announcement of the person chosen to represent Washington County in the State 4-H Hall of Fame and for details on Washington County’s kickoff celebration.
The 4-H Young Riders will meet on Monday, Jan. 19, 7 p.m. at the extension office. New members are invited to attend. The 4-H Hooves and Horns will meet on Thursday, Jan. 22, 6:30 p.m. at the extension office.
