Ann Phillips McGehee Lamkin, 97, of Elizabethtown, Ky. died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
Born on Oct. 20, 1914, she was a native of Meade County, Ky. and a member of Broadway Baptist Church in Louisville. Having attended Western Kentucky University, she taught in several one-room schoolhouses in Meade County in the 1930’s, teaching all eight grades and often riding to school on horseback. Later she taught fourth grade at Brandenburg Elementary School. Following her marriage in 1944, she served alongside her husband as a faithful pastor’s wife in several churches in Kentucky and Kansas. Loved by her family and friends, she will be greatly missed.
Descended from the early settlers in Meade and Hardin Counties, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Rev. Adrian Lamkin; her parents, Eugene Charles “Boss” and Virginia May Roberts McGehee; four brothers, Daniel Christopher, Maury, John H. and Davis McGehee; and two sisters, Mildred Forbes and Martha Nell Chism.
She is survived by one son, Dr. Adrian Lamkin, Jr. and his wife, Dana, of Champaign, Ill.; one daughter, Middy Ann Judd, and her husband Rev. Mark Judd, of Elizabethtown; and three grandchildren, Brian L. Judd, Sarah L. Lamkin and Elizabeth A. Lamkin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Brandenburg with Rev. Mark Judd officiating. Burial will follow at Ekron Baptist Church Cemetery, Ekron, Ky.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
