Trip to state is hard work, but fun, too

Anna Pettus, Washington County’s 2011 Junior Miss, and daughter of John and Barbara Pettus of Springfield, competed in the Kentucky Junior Miss contest over the weekend in Lexington.
While there, Pettus stayed with a host family who served as her family away from Springfield.

“My host parents were simply amazing,” Pettus said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better host mom and dad.”
Her schedule was a busy one at state competition. Pettus said a typical day consisted of practice from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., but it wasn’t all work.
“The week was so much fun. I made a lot of new friends that I am definitely going to stay in touch with,” she said.
Pettus was also happy for the state winner, Christine Mattingly of Lebanon. Pettus said she couldn’t have been any happier, and added, “I absolutely love Christine.”
With much of the excitement behind her, Pettus now looks forward to next year, and what it will bring for future competitors.
“Now I have 2012 Washington County Junior Miss to look forward to, and I know next year’s girls will love it as much as I did,” she said.
