After completing a doubleheader sweep of Asbury last Tuesday, the St. Catharine College baseball team had won 13 consecutive games. They were 8-0 in Mid-South Conference play and were looking to keep the ball rolling as conference rival Georgetown College visited Edelen-Haydon Field for four games over the weekend.

But the visiting Tigers evidently didn’t get the memo regarding the Patriots’ momentum. Using a strong pitching performance Friday and a potent offense Saturday, Georgetown won all four games to knock the Patriots from first place to fourth place in the conference standings.

Georgetown won 4-1 and 10-1 Friday as St. Catharine mustered just nine hits in the two games. The Patriots got their offense on track Saturday, but the Tigers outscored them in winning 11-6 and 15-14.

The weekend sweep left Georgetown with a 9-1 conference slate, which is one game behind leader Rio Grande (11-1). Campbellsville is in third place with a 9-2 conference ledger.

St. Catharine was back in action yesterday with a twin bill at Mid-Continent University. This weekend it is back to conference games with four games at Lindsey Wilson. Friday’s first game is at 5 p.m. and Saturday’s first game is at 1 p.m.
