Six years ago Lena Bramblett won her first game as head coach at St. Catharine College with a win against the JV team from the University of the Cumberlands. Fast forward to January 12, 2009 and you will find the Patriot mentor with her 100th win, a 74-69 victory at Berea.

That milestone was recognized Thursday night when the SCC athletic department presented Bramblett with a game ball for hitting the century mark.

“That was awesome,” Bramblett exclaimed after the award presentation from athletic director Mike Doig. “No, I had no idea that that was going to happen.”

Nor did Bramblett think about reaching 100 wins when she took over for Jason Montgomery six years ago. “The personal accomplishments are not what you are coaching for,” she said. “What does happen when you reach a milestone like this is that you reflect on all of the good kids you have coached that allowed this to happen. And I have had a lot of good ones.”

Thursday night Bramblett’s Patriots started her toward her second 100 wins as they beat West Virginia Tech. “Lena is very passionate about her coaching,” said Doig after the game. “She has a great relationship with her players and makes a real commitment to having an excellent program.”
