Arthur Latham averaged a double-double last year for the St. Catharine College Patriots with 21 points and 11 rebounds a game. But with only one semester of eligibility remaining, the Patriots chose to save the Radcliff, Ky., native’s talents for this season’s second semester when the Mid-South Conference schedule begins.

So with the first semester classes completed, Latham became eligible for Saturday’s game against visiting Tennessee Wesleyan. And the 6-7 senior made the most of his season debut with a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds to go with it. Latham’s partner in the post 6-8 Ervin Williams added 22 points as the Patriots bit the Bulldogs 73-55.

“We did a good job of getting the ball inside,” said SCC head coach J.T. Burton. “We had just one three (3-point goal) but that is OK. When we can get the ball in to Ervin and Arthur, we are going to score or get to the foul line.”

The win that gave the Patriots an 11-3 record followed a 61-44 loss at Tusculum (Tennessee) on Monday, Dec. 7. In that game the Patriots couldn’t get the ball inside and fell behind 31-14 at halftime.
