There is an opportunity coming Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 at 1 p.m. to the Washington County Extension Office for produce growers.
We are joining forces with Sarah Fritschner and Louisville Farm to Table again!
Buyers from Louisville, Bardstown and Lexington are coming to meet with growers. The local food movement is growing leaps and bounds and we need more growers to meet this demand.
If you are interested in growing and selling larger volumes of produce, this meeting is for you. We are going to have a sort of speed dating approach this time around.
Small groups of farmers will sit down with a buyer to discuss in detail the ins and outs of what each party might require to do business. Each session with each buyer will last around a half an hour and then we will switch with each small group moving to the next buyer.
The idea is to allow you and the buyer to really get down to business so to speak. This is a great opportunity for our area and our growers. I hope that any of you that are thinking about jumping into growing vegetables will consider coming and meeting the buyers and discussing prices, contracts and logistics.
As of writing this, these are confirmed: Grasshopper Distribution, Roby’s, Grow Farms, Papania’s, Creation Gardens and there are sure to be a few smaller buyers here as well.
If you plan to attend, please call the Washington County Extension Office at 859-336-7741 to register.
We really need to get an idea of how many people to expect so we can set our room up for this unique type of meeting. I hope that all interested growers can make plans to attend.
