Washington County and Marion County not only did battle against each other on the court Friday night, but they also came together to help deliver a one-two punch to cancer. The Coaches Vs. Cancer game raised $900 for the Washington County Relay for Life.
“It was a great success,” said relay event chair Tammy Osbourne. “We raised over $900, $690 came from the silent auction alone. A lot of thanks have to go to the coaches and teams, especially school administration, athletic director Glen Goatley and Bernard Smalley for making this a success. We are proud to have been a part of this event.”
Although Washington County lost to Marion County in both games, with the Knights winning 57-46 over the Commanders and the Lady Knights defeating the Commanderettes 68-42, the teams and fans rallied in an effort to make cancer the real loser.
Relay For Life, the signature event of the American Cancer Society, will take place June 12-13 at St. Catherine College in Springfield. For more information about forming a team or becoming a volunteer, contact Renea McCauley at 502-507-1131 or Tammy Osbourne at 859-805-0014.
