The Washington County Commanderettes opened the 2010 softball season on the road March 23 with a trip to Burgin. WC took a 2-1 lead after the first inning. By the time the top of the second inning was over, the Lady Bulldogs didn’t know what had hit them, as WC reeled off 10 more runs to go up 12-2.
For the Commanderettes in the top of the third, it was a little like Top 40 radio - the hits just kept on coming as WC plated eight more and added four more in the fourth to wallop the Lady Bulldogs, 24-3.
Besides some big output at the plate, the Commanderettes’ defense was also in top shape. Catcher Samantha Seger, third baseman Olivia Thompson and shortstop Kelly Hill successfully executed two rundowns between third base and home - one in the first inning and the other in the third.
Hill led WC with four RBI, while Seger and Pooh Railey had three each. Thompson, Linda Libby and Meagan Spalding added two RBI apiece and Hannah Simms added one.
In the stolen base department, Shay Yocum, Jaclyn Kelty, Seger, Simms and Hill all had two steals each.
