The 2008 Washington County High School Commanders football team held its annual Blue/Gold scrimmage game this past Friday. The players looked good on both sides of the ball during the intra-squad scrimmage. But that was against their own teammates, not against a rival school looking to do some damage. The Commanders are young and the schedule is tough, and the first five weeks of the season will be a trial by fire.

If there is a weak point to the team, it would have to be size. With so many young players, the Commanders could find themselves lining up against bigger and stronger competition. WCHS will have to adopt a David vs. Goliath attitude if they hope to do well this season.

"We've got to take it one week at a time," said head coach Mark Perry. "We have some tools to be a good football team. We've just got to get better at each position."

Washington County faces its first challenge this Friday at 6 p.m. in a scrimmage game at Madison Southern in Berea.
