The Washington County Commanders are finding themselves in a tough spot. A 12-2 win over Bardstown in six innings last Tuesday improved their district record to 4-3, slightly ahead of 3-3 Nelson County.

That sets up a first-round district tournament game against the Cardinals, who have beaten WC 14 out of their last 15 meetings. WC beat Nelson 10-2 on May 1.

Commander pitcher Joseph Hamilton got the win and senior shortstop Joe Joe Simms went four-for-four.

As the final week of the regular season plays out, the Commanders are gearing up for a first-round meeting with the Cards on Tuesday.

A 12-2 win over Woodford County at Tom Bystrek Field Monday provided some momentum as the Commanders have won two straight.

WC finishes up the regular season at home with a pair of games. First up is 5-16 Adair County on Thursday, followed by a Friday night match with North Hardin, currently 8-17.

The district tournament starts Tuesday at Nelson County High School.
