Senior Amanda Cox expected to be in the top 20 golfers heading into the 2013 All-A Classic Statewide Tournament, and that’s exactly where she landed: number 20.

“My real competition last year was with the seniors, and they graduated,” Cox said. “Because of that, I’m expecting to at least get up in the top 20 this year. That would be really nice.”

Cox carded a 91 to claim her coveted number 20 position, but she was not the only WC Commanderette to claim a spot in the All-A State finals.

Her sister, freshman Emily Cox, also made a strong showing in the tournament, clinching a spot in the top 10 by shooting an 84, only trailing the top golfer, Glasgow’s Emily Alexander, by 10 strokes.

This year’s trip to the state finals was the third straight appearance for Amanda and the fourth straight appearance for Emily.

Amanda improved her score from last year’s event by three strokes and jumped up 28 spots in the standings. Emily’s score remained the same, but she improved her ranking by seven spots.

The Cox sisters’ season is not over yet, though. The Girls’ Regional Golf Tournament will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at Lindsey Golf Course in Fort Knox.
