Daniel Palmer “D.P.”, “Pete” Cheatham Jr., age 97, of Louisville, formerly of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at the Jefferson Place with his family by his side.
He was born in Washington County on June 22, 1915 to the late Daniel P. and Martha Kays Cheatham.
He was a farmer until 1962. He then moved to Louisville and was a builder for Kendall & Cambron Builders until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and a friend.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 50 years, Marie Brewer Cheatham; a son, Hugh Palmer Cheatham; a daughter, Barbara Ann Cheatham; a brother, Ruel Cheatham; and a sister, Lettie Grigsby.
Surviving are his nine children, Harold Dean (Lyndall) of Knoxville, Tenn., Nancy Jones of Louisville, Charles Burnice (Norma) of Shelbyville, Bobby Clarence (Nancy) of Crestwood, Wanda Harrell of Xenia, Ohio, David Allen (Sandy) of Mt. Washington, Joseph Daniel (Debbie) of Louisville, Jeanette Cheatham of Louisville, Edith Karen (Moshen) Maybody of Louisville; a daughter-in-law, Janice Cheatham of College Place, Washington; his buddy, Charlie Wimsatt of Louisville; 22 grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 25 step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; seven step-great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Faye Moore of Springfield.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2 at Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Larry Brown, pastor of the East Frankfort Baptist Church of Frankfort, officiating. He was assisted by Ken Ilari.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.
Serving as pallbearers were his five sons and a grandson, Robert Jones.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
