Ex-deputies arraigned in federal court; trial begins April 27

Two former Washington County deputies had their first appearance in federal court last Tuesday afternoon.


According to Christopher Francis, victim-witness coordinator with the United States Attorney’s office,  Norris Wayne Bartley, 42, and Billy Joe Mattingly Jr., 41, entered not guilty pleas on charges of possession of marijuana and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a federal drug trafficking crime. Each of the men was released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.

The two are scheduled to go to trial in federal court on Tuesday, April 27 in Louisville.
