Springfield native, Katherine Fields, 20, recently won the Miss UK Thoroughbred pageant at the University of Kentucky.

Fields – who was nominated by her Alpha Delta Pi sisters to be the sorority’s representative – was one of 12 contestants in the pageant. She said she wanted to show her gratitude to her sorority sisters by representing them to the best of her ability.
“It meant a lot to win because I was representing them, and even Springfield,” Fields said via e-mail.
The pageant featured five events; interview, on-stage question, swimwear, nightwear and talent. Fields – who is a piano student of Bettye McClure of Bardstown – performed Tarantella by Pieczonka for the talent segment of the pageant.
She said she didn’t have the pageant experience that some of the other contestants had, so she had to be a quick learner.
“The overall experience was fun,” she said, “but also stressful because I was given about two months to prepare when most girls prepare for at least six months, or they have been participating in pageants their whole life. I had a lot of help though, so it was fun that night.”
Fields will now move on to the Miss Kentucky pageant in July, which she said she’ll start preparing for at the beginning of the year.
“I am very excited, but have a lot of work to do and goals to fulfill before I’m ready,” she said.
Fields is a 2010 graduate of Washington County High School and is currently majoring in Health Sciences as a sophomore at the University of Kentucky.
She is the daughter of Jimmy and Kathy Fields of Springfield.
