Fire association seeks funding for new station

At the meeting of the Springfield City Council held Feb. 9, Springfield Fire Chief John Goatley updated the city on the status of the construction of the proposed new fire station on West Main Street. The key sticking point at this time seems to be funding the new building, which will house the city’s fire department and part of Washington County’s fire department. Currently, the departments are using the old National Guard Armory, but a lack of space is posing plenty of problems for the firefighters.
