The closing of Fredericktown Elementary School means some employees will have to move to a new location within the school system, while others will be out of work.
According to Robert Stafford, superintendent of Washington County Schools, eight of the 16 positions at Fredericktown are being eliminated with the school’s recent closing.
Stafford said among the eight positions being relocated to other county schools are three tenured teachers, as well as five aides and food service workers.
“The board had really taken the steps forward to have the decision made, and my job was basically to see that it was carried out this year,” he said. “Overall, I think it’s gone well, the staff has been great to work with and very understanding, and the people in the community have, too. It’s gone as smooth as can be expected in a difficult situation.”
