Harrell E. Wood

Harrell E. Wood of Nashville passed away peacefully at the age of 86.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Julia Wood.
He is survived by his sons, Gil (Nancy) and Dennis (Susan) Wood; grandchildren, Kristin, Matt, William, Erin and Shona Wood; great-grandchildren, Kelcey, Kyle, Ashlyn, Gracyn, James, Anna, Kate and Megan.
Mr. Wood fought a 60- year battle with polio and polio syndrome, and the numerous associated challenges. Nevertheless, he persevered to be a school teacher and later principal in the Kentucky school system. He was an active Shriner, a member of the Lions Club and an elder in Christian churches in Springfield and Henderson, Ky., until he moved back to Nashville in 1999.  Before his illness, he proudly served in the US Navy in WWII as a net tender on the USS Corkwood.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home, who was in charge of the arrangements.
