KSP say juvenile died in accidental shooting

No charges filed, no foul play suspected



Kentucky State Police responded to a shooting complaint on Main Street in Springfield Wednesday, May 25, that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old Washington County juvenile.  

Through investigation it was discovered that two juveniles were playing with a firearm when it discharged.  The shot struck one of the juveniles, causing his death. At this point there is no foul play suspected in the incident and an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday, May 26.  The investigation is continuing by Detective Ricky Brooks.  Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Springfield Police Department, Washington County Coroner, and Washington County EMS.

The victim, who has not been identified by police, has been identified as a Washington County High School freshman. School officials said grief counselors were on hand for students, and some local pastors also offered to speak with students as needed.
