Over the next several weeks, the results of the 4-H Forestry Leaf Collection project will be announced.  This week, the results from North Washington Elementary School are included along with the photos of the students with the top collections.

The North Washington fifth grades also completed a soil testing program where the students collected samples from around their school.  The samples were then sent to the University of Kentucky for analysis.  After the results were returned, the students reviewed the results and what would have to be done to the soil in each location in regard to the usage of the ground.

The program was completed with the students learning how to properly plant a tree and actually taking part in planting a black gum tree on the school grounds.  A special thank you goes to Washington County’s CEA for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Rick Greenwell and CEA for Horticulture, Dennis Morgeson.  The tree was provided to the school through a grant received by Washington County 4-H.
