A federal grand jury in Louisville has returned an indictment against Kevin Buckler and Kathy Buckler of Springfield on March 18, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky.
The indictment charges the Bucklers with filing false federal tax returns for 2001 and 2002 in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7206(I). The Bucklers were arrested and arraigned in United States District Court in Louisville.
The indictment charges that the couple failed to report approximately $254,000 in income in 2001 and 2002. In 2001, they failed to report $75,116.23 in income on their 2001 joint federal income tax return, according to the indictment. It also states that they failed to report $179,257.56 on their 2002 joint federal income tax return.
The potential penalties are six years in prison, a $500,000 fine, and a one-year term of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigations.
The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only, and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
