A Lebanon man has been arrested and charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into a Springfield home.
George Smothers, 40, of St. Rose Road in Lebanon, was charged with burglary 1st degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument after a May 22 incident at the home of Burton Hatchett of Springfield.
According to Washington County Sheriff Tommy Bartley, Smothers entered the Hatchett home through a rear window and took a blank check from the home. The check had been made out to a local business, but no amount was written on it at the time.
