A domestic dispute between a man and his step-son leaves one charged with assault.
Ronald L. Thompson Jr., 32, of Springfield, was charged with one count each of assault 4th degree (domestic violence), criminal mischief third degree and resisting arrest.
The charges were the result of an incident that allegedly took place on May 27, when Thompson reportedly entered the home of his step-father, Joseph Wheeler. Wheeler contacted police at around 1:30 a.m. on that date and said Thompson came into his bedroom, asking him about a dog. Wheeler told Deputy Billy Mattingly that he told Thompson he didn’t want to talk about it because it was too late. Wheeler said Thompson then began to yell, then struck Wheeler, cutting his head.
A report by Deputy Mattingly indicated that Thompson was outside the home when he arrived, and Thompson then went back inside and began kicking a bedroom door to get back to Wheeler.
The report said Thompson was taken down and arrested just before 2 a.m. He was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center. The center’s Web site indicated that Thompson was also charged with one count of probation violation.
