Gov. Steve Beshear has proclaimed Friday, March 20, the first day of spring, as Agriculture Day in Kentucky.

“Kentucky’s rural heritage and traditional values are embodied in the hard work of Kentucky farm families,” said Gov. Beshear. “I urge all Kentuckians to support agriculture and join me as we salute this important industry,” stated Gov. Beshear.

Agriculture provides 251,000 Kentucky jobs; 11 percent of the statewide total. Kentucky farmers and agribusinesses help feed the world and inject billions of dollars of economic activity in Kentucky, while ensuring a sustainable resource base for future generations.

Kentucky farmers and agribusinesses also continue to build upon decades of progress by seeking advances in science, research, technology, production and marketing to meet the demands of changing consumer needs and complex world markets.
