A section of KY 555 by Wendy’s is getting turning lanes, and the project could be complete by the end of this week.
Chad Filiatreau, the transportation engineering supervisor for the Bardstown section, said the lanes were receiving stripes on Monday.
Guard rail and shoulder work remained after Monday, but was expected to be done soon.
Filiatreau said it should be completed by the end of the week, but the contract deadline is actually Sept. 30.
The new lanes should help with traffic problems at the intersection.
“It should help reduce congestion and some of the traffic conflict points at the intersection,” Filiatreau said.
According to Chris Jessie, public information officer for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, there have been 12 collisions in that area from July 1, 2008 until June 30, 2011.
Eight of those collisions resulted in injuries. Seven of the collisions were rear-end collisions, four were angle collisions and one was a head-on collision.
Jessie said the total cost for the project was $165,000.
