Parkinson’s Support Group
Our next summer social gathering will be (today) Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m. at Mordecai’s in Springfield. All touched by Parkinson’s are welcome. Call Jane Swarts at 502-350-4458 for more information.

Friday, Aug. 17
Prime Time Wrestling
The Mackville Community Center, in partnership with Prime Time Wrestling, will be hosting a wrestling match on Friday, Aug. 17. Showtime is 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available. Family friendly for all ages.

Saturday, Aug. 18
Concealed Carry Class
A concealed-carry class will be Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. until completion. The class is offered by the Department of Criminal Justice training. For more information, call 859-332-7728 or 859-583-5716. Jimmy Elliott is the instructor.

Contemplative Prayer Day
The monthly Contemplative Prayer Day at St. Catharine Motherhouse will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The theme for the day will be “Meditation With Tea” and will include the following topics with silent meditation and experiences with tea: Looking Deeply into Tea, The Tea Room/Tea Bowl/and the Inner Space Within, The Faces of Tea, Tea and Oneness and a closing tea ceremony.
Presenter will be Shelley Richardson from Elmwood Inn Fine Teas in Danville.

Red Cross Blood Drive
There will be an American Red Cross blood drive on Aug. 19 from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church, 306 Fredericktown Rd, Springfield.

Monday, Aug. 20
The Washington County Middle School site-based decision-making council meeting will be at 3:30 p.m. at WCMS on Monday, Aug. 20.

“White Christmas” Auditions
Auditions for Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas” will be held on Monday, Aug. 20 in the Springfield Opera House basement.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 5:30 p.m. to review plans for the East High Street Redevelopment Project – Phase II for sidewalk replacement. Historical Society

Red Cross Blood Drive
There will be an American Red Cross blood drive on Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Catharine College, 2735 Bardstown Rd, Saint Catharine.

Friday, Aug. 24
Pork Lunch
There will be a pork lunch on Aug. 24 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Springfield State Bank on Main Street. Choose from a pork burger, BBQ pork or pork bratwurst with chips and a drink. Baby Contest
The Heartland Festival in the Park’s baby contest will be held on Friday, Aug. 24 at the Pritchard Community Center in Elizabethtown. Baby contests are open to boys and girls, ages birth to not yet five years old. For more information, log onto www.heartlandfestivalinthepark.com.  

Sunday, Aug. 26
Willisburg Baptist Church Homecoming
Willisburg Baptist Church located at 5599 Highway 433 will be celebrating 104 years in ministry on Sunday, Aug. 26.
An invitation is extended to each and everyone who would like to come, worship, and fellowship with us on this day.
Rev. Gerald Murphy who serves as director of missions of the Severns Valley Association of Kentucky Baptist will be the guest speaker.
He and his wife, Sheila,  are former International Mission Board Missionaries to Central and Eastern Europe. They have served God in Russia, Germany and Hungary.
A potluck meal will follow the worship service. Everyone is welcome!

Haydon Family Reunion
The annual Haydon family reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26 at the Fredericktown Park on Bardstown Road.

WC Heartland Youth Coalition
The Washington County Heartland Youth Coalition and The House of Hope will be offering Strengthening Families Program and Parent-to-Parent sessions beginning Monday, Aug. 27.
Hours for these classes will count toward the 2012 holiday assistance program.

Sept. 7, 14 and 28
Cradle School
The Washington Co. FRYSC will be hosting Cradle School on Sept. 7, 14, 28 from 10–11:30 a.m. in the Washington County Schools Childcare located behind Washington County High School in the brick building. Cradle School is a program for children ages two and three years old and their parents.  Participants will experience educational activities including lessons on language, critical thinking skills, social skills, music, story time, center activities and snack time. WC Fair
The Washington County Fair will be held Oct. 5-7 at the senior citizens center. Some of the new classes are ugly lamps (born or made ugly), doll and toy farm scapes contest, honey and spinning yarn classes, plus the regular classes.
