Ice Cream Social
Springfield Nursing and Rehab will be hosting an ice cream social with live music by the Rainy Day Band on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 1-3 p.m. for being voted the best nursing home in Springfield in The Springfield Sun. Everyone is invited.
Friday, Aug. 31
No Drivers License Test
No drivers license tests will be given on Friday, Aug. 31. Tests will resume on Friday, Sept. 7.
Saturday, Sept. 1
The family of the late Leslie and Della Hardin Pinkston will have their annual reunion on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Temple Baptist Church on Maplewood Avenue in Springfield from noon to 5 p.m. A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m. so please bring your favorite dish. The family of the late Bob Pinkston will be here from Illinois with pictures and memories of Bob. Please plan to attend and bring any pictures or stories you might have to pass on. All family and friends are cordially invited.
Local Artist Exhibits
Norma Jean Campbell has been selected to be an exhibitor in the first “Art in the Gardens at Liberty Hall,” a fine arts fair, on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1-2, in downtown Frankfort at Liberty Hall Historic Site. For more information, visit or call Liberty Hall at 502-227-2560.
Sunday, Sept. 2
The annual Stumph Reunion will be held at the Mackville Community Center on Sunday, Sept. 2. Potluck meal will be served at approximately 12:30 p.m. Please bring an item for the white elephant auction. Proceeds from the auction will be used to defray expenses of the reunion and upkeep of Hall Cemetery.
Tuesday, Sept. 4
Conservation District Field Day
The Washington County Conservation District in conjunction with the Natural Resource Conservation Service and Kentucky Fish & Wildlife will hold a Wetlands Restoration Field Day at Riverside Farm, 10014 Bloomfield Road in Springfield on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 5:30 p.m. A meal will be provided following a tour of Riverside Farm. If you are interested in attending RSVP is required with the Washington County Conservation District at 336-7777.
Advisory Council meeting
There will be a community education advisory council meeting on Sept. 4 at noon at the Sutton House.
Thursday, Sept. 6
WCHS Parent Night
Parent Night at Washington County High School will be held on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 5-6:30 p.m. Parents are encouraged to attend to meet with teachers and meet with technology personnel in the library to obtain access to the infinite Campus Portal for grade and attendance information.
4-H Yard Sale
Washington County 4-H will be holding its second-annual yard sale on Friday, Sept. 7 beginning at noon until 6 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you have anything you would like to donate to this sale (no adult clothes please), you may drop it off on Thursday or Friday, Sept. 6-7 before noon. All proceeds go to benefit the Washington County 4-H Program. Call the extension office at 336-7741 with any questions.
Saturday, Sept. 8
The descendants of Enoch and Mary Burkhead will hold their annual Burkhead reunion on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Lincoln Park Shelter. Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and beverages. Utensils will be furnished. For more information, call Maeola Chesser at (859) 336-7005.
Eric Black will present a cooking class at Mackville Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. To sign up for the class or for more information, including the cost, call Nancy at 336-7726. Proceeds benefit the Mackville Community Center.
Sept. 7, 14 and 28
The Washington Co. FRYSC will be hosting Cradle School on Sept. 7, 14, 28 from 10–11:30 a.m. in the Washington County Schools Childcare, located behind Washington County High School in the brick building. Cradle School is a program for children ages two and three years old and their parents. Participants will experience educational activities including lessons on language, critical-thinking skills, social skills, music, story time, center activities and snack time. WC Fair Horse Show
The Washington County Fair Horse Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Willisburg Community Park. A rain date of Sept. 22 has been set. Please contact the Washington County Extension Office at 336-7741 or Tana Wells at 336-9528.

K of C Chicken Dinner
The Knights of Columbus chicken dinner will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2018 Bardstown Road, Springfield. Dine in or carryout. Menu includes chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes/gravy, rolls, slaw and desert. All proceeds go to Knights of Columbus charities. Call Louis Peterson (859) 481-2676 for additional information.
The Springfield Water Company will be flushing hydrants, weather permitting, throughout the city on Monday, Sept. 10, Tuesday, Sept. 11, and Sept. 12 and may extend into the county Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept 14. This may cause a temporary discoloration of the water. We ask that you refrain from washing clothes or any use that the discoloration may affect. We appreciate your cooperation.

The Washington County Fair will be held Oct. 5-7 at the Senior Citizens Center. Some of the new classes are Ugly Lamps (born or made ugly), Doll and Toy Farm Scapes contest, honey and spinning yarn classes, plus the regular classes.
