Oct. 10
Water Commission Meeting

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will have their regular monthly meeting (today) Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the water office. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.

SCC Health Screening
St. Catharine College will provide free health screenings for adults 18 and over (today) Wednesday, Oct. 10. The screenings will take place from 7:50 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Richard S. Hamilton Health and Science Building.
Appointments are highly encouraged. To schedule your screening, or for more information, please contact Sr. Mary Brigid Gregory at (859) 336-5082, ext. 1330 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. by Oct. 8.

Thursday, Oct. 11
Test Results

How well do you understand your child’s state testing results? On Thursday, Oct. 11, learn about Kentucky’s new accountability model: Unbridled Learning at 6:30 p.m. in the Washington County High School gym. There will be free food, incentives, and gift cards to be given away. Child care provided.

Airport board meeting
The Marion - Washington County airport board monthly meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the airport terminal (650 Airport Lane).

Friday, Oct. 12
Weight Loss Support Group No. 1

This free group is for those thinking of bariatric (weight loss) surgery, those who have had surgery, and family and friends. It’s open to all patients, regardless of what hospital they chose for their surgery. The group will meet Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. at Flaget Pain Management Center in the medical building on the Flaget Hospital Campus. For more information, call 350-5493.

Michael Smyth Benefit

A benefit for Michael Smyth will be held to cover funeral expenses on Friday, Oct. 12 at Abraham Lincoln Post 167, Downs Lane, Bardstown. There will be a chili supper from 4-7 p.m. Also during that time, there will be a silent auction and  cake raffles. At 8 p.m. there will be a dance featuring “Low Down.” Anyone wanting to make a donation can call 502-510-5518.

Oct. 12-13
The Caring Place

The Caring Place is an emergency domestic violence shelter for women and children of abuse. Some of the services that are offered to the residents of the shelter include counseling and housing assistance.
During October, The Caring Place will have a bake sale at the Marion County High School football game on Oct. 12, a roadblock in Marion County on Oct. 13 and a roadblock in Washington County on Oct. 13. For more information, call (270) 692-9300.

Saturday, Oct. 13
Free Ladies Oil Change

Willisburg Christian Church will be having a free single ladies oil change from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 13. The oil change includes a new filter and an 18-point vehicle check. There will be lunch and refreshments for all that participate.

Toys for Tots Trail Ride
Toys for Tots trail ride will be held on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Camp Calvary in Willisburg. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Trail Ride is $10 without a toy, or $5 and a new toy. Meal will be provided following the ride. No alcohol permitted. This is a good family trail ride suitable for all ages.

Retired Cafeteria Workers Luncheon
Retired cafeteria workers of Washington County High School and Washington County Elementary School will meet at Mordecai’s on Saturday, Oct. 13 at noon for lunch.

100th Birthday Celebration
Loraine McMurtry’s 100th birthday celebration will be held at Mordecai’s on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 2-4 p.m. Please no gifts, just memories!

There will be a homecoming at Mt. Zion Methodist Church, Springfield, on Sunday, Oct. 14. Services begin at 10 a.m., and worship at 11 a.m. with a potluck dinner following service. Everyone welcome.

Faithful Citizenship Luncheon
“US Roots: Religious Freedom” is the topic of the Faithful Citizenship Luncheon to be held noon-1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 16, in Flaget Hall at St Joseph Proto-Cathedral. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served or bring a brown-bag lunch; drinks will be provided.

Hosparus Needs Volunteers

Hosparus needs volunteers in Marion and Washington counties to provide patient/family support and will offer a free training, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 (lunch provided) in the conference room at the Opera House, 124 West Main St., Springfield, Ky. Youth Rally

On Oct. 20 at 6:30 p.m. New Beginnings Community Church in Springfield will be having a youth rally featuring Steadfast and Daniel Cook from Elkhorn Baptist Church in Campbellsville. Everyone is invited.

Chili Supper and Fall Festival
Holy Rosary Church Manton chili supper and fall festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 20. Dinner will be served from 4-8 p.m. Mass at 4 p.m. Need not to be present for drawings.

Donkey Basketball
On Saturday, Oct. 20 the Mackville Community Center and the Mackville Lions Club will be hosting a donkey basketball game. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a chili supper, hot dogs and homemade dessert will also be available for purchase. St. Dominic School is having a fall open house on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Prospective school families are invited to come and tour the school from 9-11 a.m. and 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Science Lab Open House
The community is invited to tour the new Alltech Science Lab at St. Dominic School from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. A second open house and dedication of the lab is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28.

Prime Time Wrestling

The Mackville Community Center and the Mackville Lions Club in partnership with Prime Time Wrestling will be hosting a wrestling match on Saturday, Oct. 27. Show time is 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Concessions will be available. Family friendly for all ages.

St. Rose Turkey Dinner
St. Rose Church Turkey Dinner Social will be held Saturday, Oct. 27 from 4-7:30 p.m. Proceeds go to the church.

Trick-or-treating in Springfield has been set for Wednesday, Oct. 31. Trick-or-treating downtown is from 4-5:30 p.m. Residential trick-or-treating is from 5:30-7 p.m.

Willisburg Trick-or-Treating
The City of Willisburg will be observing Halloween “Trick-or-Treating” on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.

Halloween in Mackville
Halloween activities at the Mackville Community Center will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 31 starting at 5 p.m.

Saturday, Nov. 10
Adult Spelling Bee

The St. Dominic Spell-A-Bration, an adult spelling bee, will be held Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at St. Dominic School Gym. Doors open at 5 p.m.
