WC Heartland Youth Coalition
The Washington County Heartland Youth Coalition RISE Youth are collecting items for the residents of the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Home and the residents of Sansbury Nursing Facility.
Items needed are scarves, sweaters, slippers, Afghans, blankets, socks, etc. If you have items you would like to donate, please drop those items off at the Washington County Library by Wednesday, Dec. 14. The RISE Youth will be going to the facilities on Friday, Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m. to pass items collected to residents. For more information, please call 336-5470 x 2214.
Harvest for the Hungry
The holiday season is a time of financial hardships for many Kentucky families. Your food bank needs your help! Start collecting non-perishable food items now through Dec. 15. Your food donations will help those who may otherwise go without. Participate by calling (270) 735-1407.

Parent Night is scheduled at Washington County High School on Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5-7 p.m.
Learn how to make Christmas centerpieces at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8. Classes are free and will last one hour. Register by calling the Washington County Public Library at 336-7655 or by stopping by the front desk.

WC Electrical Inspector
Washington County Electrical Inspector, Arthur Elliott, will NOT be doing any inspections in Washington County on Friday, Dec. 9.
Saturday, Dec. 10
FFA Blood Drive
Washington County FFA will be hosting a blood drive, Saturday, Dec. 10 from 2-7 p.m. in the gym at Washington County High School in honor of Justin Hatchett and Tyler Russell. The public is invited to donate along with students at Washington County High School. A scholarship will be given by the Red Cross to those students instrumental in helping with the blood drive. The amount of the scholarship is dependent on grades and the amount of blood donated. Please help save a life this holiday season by giving blood.
Christmas in Mackville
Christmas in Mackville Show will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 with Larry Sanders and The Borderline Band. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and show at 7 p.m. Tickets available at BB&T Bank, Springfield State Bank and Branches, US Bank and Royalty’s Florist in Harrodsburg. Sunday, Dec. 11
The Washington County Ministerial Association is this year partnering with the Salvation Army to host “Kettle Sunday” on Dec. 11, 2011. Churches throughout the county will have kettles or special offerings during their services to support this worthwhile project. All proceeds from this effort stay in Washington County to meet the needs of the less fortunate in our community, not just at Christmas, but throughout the year.
The Washington County Bands will present their annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. in the WCHS gym. There is no admission.
Springfield Presbyterian Church Choir, 140 E. Main St., Springfield presents “Born a Savior” Christmas Cantata on Sunday, Dec. 11, Worship Service at 11 a.m. and Community Program at 5 p.m. Directed by Higo Rodrigues, with guest musicians from Campbellsville University and the University of Kentucky.
The Love Story of Christmas
“Down From His Glory - The Love Story of Christmas” will be presented by the Springfield Baptist Church on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary located at the corner of Lincoln Park Road and High Street.

So, leave your credit card at home and come to the Family Life Center at Springfield Baptist Church located at the corner of Lincoln Park Road and High Street on Monday, Dec. 12, 2011, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. and give that perfect gift.
This will be the regularly scheduled visit of the American Red Cross Blood Mobile.

PVA Office Closing
The Washington County PVA Office will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 13 for the inauguration of Governor Steve Beshear.
Managing Your Meals
Managing Your Meals will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Washington County Health Department. Initial Class will be at 1 p.m. with Follow Up Class at 2:30 p.m. These classes will be conducted by a registered dietitian or nurse. Call (800) 280-1601, ext. 1035 to register.

Water Commission Meeting
The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the water office. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.

The Washington County Elementary School Site Based Decision Making meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 in the Media Center.
