Mid Kentucky Chorus
The Mid-Kentucky Chorus Christmas concerts have been rescheduled to the following dates and times:
Friday, Dec. 13 in Bardstown at St. Joseph Cathedral at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15 in Lebanon at St. Augustine Church at 3 p.m.  For information or reservations, please call Susan Spalding at 859-336-9232.

WC Local Emergency Planning Committee
The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee will be holding meetings on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27.  Both meetings will be at 126 Armory Hill in Springfield and start at 1 p.m.

Change in Recycling Dates–Holiday Schedule
There will be a change in curbside recycling dates for Springfield.  The City of Springfield has announced the following change of dates for their recycling schedule:
Recycling dates of Dec. 25 and 26 will be changed to Jan. 2 and 3, 2014.

Volunteers Needed

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at the water office.  The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.

Holiday Gift for Someone Special

Adult Book Discussion
The adult book discussion will be held at the Washington County Public Library on Dec. 12 at 5 p.m.  Pick up a copy of the current book at the desk and join us for a lively discussion.

Mary Ministry Christmas
The Mary Ministry will host a Christmas dinner and program on Dec. 12 at the Wesley Family Life Center for single mothers and their children.  The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and a program will follow.  There will be a special guest appearance of Santa Claus during the evening festivities.

The distribution date for HAP is Friday, Dec. 13 at the rear entrance, off Ballard Street, of the Masonic Lodge.  Times are set according to your last name; A-F at 10 a.m.; G-O at 11 a.m.; P-Z at 1 p.m.  For questions concerning drop-off dates and locations, please call 859-336-0140.

Saturday, Dec. 14

Christmas in Song
Johnson Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church’s Lay Council presents “Christmas in Song” on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.  Guests will include The Beatitudes, The Graves Family, Velma Thompson, Bobby Harris, Holy Rosary Youth for Christ and the Johnson Chapel Choir.  Everyone is invited.  Rev. Michelle Washington is Pastor.

Catholic High School Placement Test
Bethlehem High School will be hosting the Catholic high school placement test on Saturday, Dec. 14.   All students considering a catholic high school are encouraged to take this test.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the test will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Students need to bring two No. 2 pencils.  There is a fee involved.  Questions should be directed to Julie Downs, admissions director, at 502-348-8594, ext. 213 or jdowns@bethlehemhigh.org.

Christmas in Mackville
Christmas in Mackville will be at the Mackville Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 14 featuring Allison D. Speer in concert.  The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with show time at 7 p.m.  A country ham dinner will be served between 5:30-7 p.m.  Tickets are available at Springfield State Bank (and branches), BB&T Bank, Nalley’s Cellular and the Harrodsburg Herald.  Group discounts are available if purchased in advance.  For more information, call 859-262-5535 or 859-262-5730.  All proceeds go to the Mackville Community Center.

Pancakes with Santa
St. Dominic athletics will be hosting pancakes with Santa on Dec. 15, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the St. Dominic parish community center/gym.  All proceeds benefit St. Dominic athletics.

Springfield Baptist Church

A Christmas musical, “Peace on Earth” will be presented at Springfield Baptist Church at 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, in the church sanctuary, located at the corner of Lincoln Park Road and High Street.  Participating will be the adult and children’s choirs, guest singers and instrumentalists under the direction of Alice Clark.  All are welcome and invited to this family activity with the Christmas story presented in word and song.

Holiday Safari
Join the Washington County Public Library in selecting a present from under the tree that relates to one of our surprise guest animals on Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office, 211 Progress Ave.  All will have an opportunity to get “hands on” with six different animals.  Live animals will be present.

Saturday, Dec. 21

Contemplative Prayer Day
St. Catharine Motherhouse is holding its monthly Contemplative Prayer Day on Dec. 21, 2013, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The day is focused on contemplative prayer, silence, meditative walking and a presentation on Hildegard of Bingen, by Ellyn Crutcher, from Epiphany Parish.  Ellyn serves on the Board of the Center of Interfaith Relations, the Dean’s Board of Advisers at Yale Divinity School and coordinates the Louisville Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society.  The day closes with a tea meditation and a Blessing.  Bring a bag lunch. Paws-itive Reading
Join our volunteers, therapy dog Jade and her handler Dorathy for some holiday reading practice on Dec. 21 at 10 a.m.  Children can practice their reading skills one-on-one with Jade or in small groups.  Volunteers are on hand to read with children as they wait for their turn to read.
