Change in Recycling Dates–Holiday Schedule
There will be a change in curbside recycling dates for Springfield.  The City of Springfield has announced the following change of dates for their recycling schedule:
Recycling dates of Dec. 25-26 will be changed to Jan. 2-3, 2014.

Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed at the Lincoln Legacy Museum. If you have any free time, even a couple of hours would be greatly appreciated. Call Lena Russell at 859-336-3232.

Wednesday, Dec. 18

Lincoln Trail Area Development
The Lincoln Trail Area Development District Board of Directors will meet Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 1:15 p.m. at the Lincoln Trail ADD office.  

Parkinson’s Support Group-Bardstown
The Dec. 18 meeting will be at Nelson County Public Library Community Room at 1 p.m. We will gather to share the holiday spirit. Our meetings are open to anyone touched by Parkinson’s disease including patient, caregiver, family and friends. Holiday Safari
Join the Washington County Public Library in selecting a present from under the tree that relates to one of our surprise guest animals on Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Office, 211 Progress Ave.  All will have an opportunity to get “hands on” with six different animals.  Live animals will be present.

Friday, Dec. 20

WC Local Emergency Planning Committee
The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee will be holding meetings on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27.  Both meetings will be at 126 Armory Hill in Springfield and start at 1 p.m.

Bardstown Christmas Concert

The Silver and Strings Chamber Music Ensemble will be performing holiday music at the FABS Gallery (the former library) Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. – noon.  The program includes pieces from the swing era as well as traditional and non-traditional arrangements of favorite carols.

Saturday, Dec. 21

WC Softball bake sale
The Washington Co. softball will be having a bake sale on Dec. 21 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Springfield State Bank and Save-a-Lot. Please come out and support the girls and get your goodies for Christmas.  All proceeds benefit the Washington County High School softball team.

Relay for Life Bake Sale

The “Fishing for a Cure” team will be having a bake sale at Parkview IGA on Dec. 21, from 8 a.m.- noon.  All proceeds benefit the Relay for Life.

Contemplative Prayer Day
Saint Catharine Motherhouse is holding its monthly Contemplative Prayer Day on Dec. 21, 2013, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The day is focused on contemplative prayer, silence, meditative walking, and a presentation on Hildegard of Bingen, by Ellyn Crutcher, from Epiphany Parish.  Ellyn serves on the Board of the Center of Interfaith Relations, the Dean’s Board of Advisers at Yale Divinity School and coordinates the Louisville Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society.  The day closes with a tea meditation and a Blessing.  Bring a bag lunch. Paws-itive Reading
Join our volunteers, therapy dog Jade, and her handler, Dorathy, for some holiday reading practice on Dec. 21 at 10 a.m.  Children can practice their reading skills one-on-one with Jade or in small groups.  Volunteers are on hand to read with children as they wait for their turn to read.

Sunday, Dec. 22

Live Nativity Scene
Mt. Freedom Baptist Church is having a live nativity scene starting Sunday night Dec. 22-24 from 6-7 p.m., and a Christmas Eve candle light service at 6 p.m.

Christmas Play
The Redemption Point Church of God will be performing the Christmas Play entitled “What if Jesus Came Today” on Sunday morning, Dec. 22. Sunday School will be held at 10 a.m. The Christmas singing will start at approximately 10:45 a.m., and the play will begin at 11 a.m.  All are invited to attend. The church is located at 2527 Highway 555, about 1.5 miles north of the 150 by-pass on the left.

Christmas Choir Cantata
The Springfield Presbyterian Church Choir will present its Christmas cantata during the Sunday morning worship service at 11a.m. Dec. 22.   Guest musicians will accompany the choir that is directed by Higo Rodrigues.   The community is invited to this service of Worship telling of Christ’s birth in song.  

Tuesday, Dec. 24

Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

The Springfield Presbyterian Church will hold its Christmas Eve candlelight service on Dec. 24 at 8 p.m.   All are invited to participate in this traditional candlelight service of lessons and carols celebrating the birth of the Jesus.  The church is located at 140 E. Main St. in Springfield.

Christmas Eve Mass

The Dominican Sisters of Peace at St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, Ky, will be celebrating Christmas Eve Mass in St. Catharine Hall at 8 p.m. on Dec. 24.  Christmas caroling will precede the mass beginning at 7:30 p.m.  The public is invited to attend these services.  Light refreshments will be served following the mass.

Christmas Piano Concert
Vernon and Nancy Cherrix will give a Christmas Piano Concert Tuesday, Dec. 31, 10:30 a.m. at Loretto Motherhouse, Nerinx, Ky.  All are welcome; admission is free.

Jo Newton, KHEAA, will be helping high school students and their parents fill out the necessary FAFSA form online at the Washington County Public Library on Jan. 1 at 5 p.m.  There will be a chance to win one of four $500 scholarships from the door prize.
