Change in Recycling Dates – Holiday Schedule
There will be a change in curbside recycling dates for Springfield. The City of Springfield has announced the following change of dates for their recycling schedule:
Recycling dates of Dec. 25 and 26 will be changed to Jan. 2 and 3, 2014.
Volunteers are needed at the Lincoln Legacy Museum. If you have any free time, even a couple of hours would be greatly appreciated. Call Lena Russell at 859-336-3232.
The Bardstown Community Theatre will be presenting “The Homecoming”, a heartwarming comedy/drama, adapted by Christopher Sergel from the book written by Earl Hamner, Jr., known on television as “The Waltons”. Performances will be held Dec. 6, 8 and 13-15. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 8 p.m., with Sunday Matinees at 2 p.m. Active duty and retired military, in uniform or with military id will be admitted free. Seating is limited. Moving Forward Forums - Entitled “Energy Independence”
The eighth in the series of Moving Forward Forums will take place on Thursday evening, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. on the Springfield campus of Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. Admission is free and open to the public.
Make a one-of-a-kind gingerbread house that looks good enough to eat at the Washington County Public Library on Dec. 5 at 3:30 p.m. for ages 9-17.
Paying for College 101
Jo Newton, KHEAA, gives high school students and parents the needed information on college entrance on Dec. 5, 5:30 p.m., at the Washington County Public Library for ages 13-19.

North Washington PTO Winter Festival and Craft Fair
The North Washington PTO is having a winter festival and craft fair from 6-9 p.m. on Dec. 6. Santa will visit. There will be games in the classrooms, chili and potato soup supper and an auction. For more information, please call Missy Boblitt at 859-619-7261.
Saturday, Dec. 7
Santa Claus will be coming to Springfield on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. Children 12 and under are invited to join in the “Santa Walk” on Saturday morning. The children are asked to wear their Santa hats and join Santa around 9:45 a.m. at Washington County Industries (former Reed’s Key Market building) on East Main and follow Santa and the Washington County Band down Main Street. Santa will stop in City Hall and visit with the children.
Other Christmas events in Springfield include the ringing of church bells at 9:50 a.m., the Christmas Crafters Market & Bakery at the Louisville Store Building (10 a.m.-4 p.m.), the library’s How-To Festival at the Opera House and the Holiday Home Tour (4-8 p.m.).
Light Up Willisburg
Light Up Willisburg will be Saturday, Dec. 7 starting at 5 p.m., with Santa Claus, wagon rides, children singing, and the light up of Main Street. The lighting of the tree will take place at 6 p.m. Hot chocolate will be sold by the local scout group.
KYNECT: Affordable Healthcare Act
Kynectors will be at the Washington County Public Library on Dec. 7, 9 a.m., to assist you with signing up for insurance and to answer questions about the Affordable Healthcare Act.
The Washington County Public Library is offering a How-To Festival at the Springfield Opera House on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. The festival has 30 programs, 3 hours, free and fun. There will be a variety of programs for all ages.
Christmas Tour of Homes
The annual Christmas Tour of Homes in Bardstown will be Dec. 7 from 2-9 p.m. The tour is sponsored by the Stephen Foster Music Club. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Bardstown Visitor’s Center, Court Square, beginning Thanksgiving weekend. The day of the tour, tickets will be available at the Old Library Building, also on the Court Square. Annual Dance and Auction for the Mentally Handicapped
The Washington County Association for the Mentally Handicapped will be hosting their Annual Dance and Auction on Dec. 7, 8 p.m.-1 a.m., at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Bardstown Rd. Doors open at 7 p.m. and there will be music by the Moonshine Millionaires. WC Holiday Assistance Roadblock
A roadblock will take place at the intersection of Hwy 150 and Hwy 555 by Hardee’s in Springfield on Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All donations will go toward the purchase of gifts for the children’s tags that go unclaimed each year.

Lions-Rotary Radio Auction
Springfield continues to celebrate Christmas on Dec. 8 with the annual Lions-Rotary Radio Auction starting at 1 p.m. on WLSK 100.9, The Mike FM.
Christmas at Campground Methodist Church
The Christmas at Campground Methodist Church will be Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
The Mid-Kentucky Chorus Annual Christmas Concert, “The Beautiful Music of Christmas”, will be held Dec. 8, 3 p.m., in St. Catharine Hall at St. Catharine College. With beautiful arrangements of traditional choral pieces enhanced with professional musicians and soloists, the entire concert is spectacular, uplifting and joyous. Reserved seating is available. The American Red Cross Blood Mobile
The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be in the Family Life Center at Springfield Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, from noon until 5 pm for its regular visit. Give something that means something during this Christmas season. Come give a pint of blood. It will be a special gift that money can’t buy.

Visit With Mrs. Clause
Mrs. Claus will be at the Washington County Public Library on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. Bring your wish list to Mrs. Claus for delivery to the “man in the red suit”. Don’t forget your cameras and get a great picture.

Mary Ministry Christmas
The Mary Ministry will host a Christmas dinner and program on Dec. 12 at the Wesley Family Life Center for single mothers and their children. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and a program will follow. There will be a special guest appearance of Santa Claus during the evening festivities.

Christmas in Mackville will be at the Mackville Community Center on Saturday, Dec. 14 featuring Allison D. Speer in concert.
