Idle Hour Park
The shelters at Idle Hour Park will not be available during June 27-July 19, due to the Little League state tournament.  

Volunteers Needed

Mid-Kentucky Chorus
Mid-Kentucky Chorus presents “Celebrate the Sacred Song” on April 27, at St. Catharine College in St. Catharine Hall, and Sunday, May 4, at St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral in Bardstown, both at 3 p.m. The concert is a choral history of treasured hymns, spirituals and modern selections in powerful arrangements to evoke wonderful memories of our religious music heritage. Central Kentucky Head Start

Head Start is now accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year. Children who will be 3 or 4 years of age by Oct. 1 are age eligible. Mackville Community Beautification Project
The Mackville Community Beautification Project, I partnership with Mackville Community Development, will be having a plant sale on Friday, May 2, from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Washington County Senior Center. WC Board of Health Meeting
The annual meeting of the Washington County Board of Health will be May 6, 6 p.m., at Mordecai’s on Main in Springfield.  The meeting is open to the public.

Walking in Willisburg
Starting the first week of May, KentuckyOne Health will be sponsoring a health walk on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of July at the park in Willisburg. The walk will be on Tuesdays from noon to 12:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

Wednesday Night Golf League

The Wednesday Night Golf League at Lincoln Homestead Golf Course is scheduled to start on May 7 at 4:15 p.m. There will be an organization meeting to discuss the rules and then the teams will play their nine-hole match. A partner is necessary to participate in the league. Each person will have a handicap after playing three rounds. The league is looking for a few new teams to participate. The regular league runs through July and then is followed by a single elimination tournament. Call Bill Hardin at 859-336-7570 for more information.

2014 Community Activism Scholarship
Springfield B&PW is proud to offer a $1,000 cash scholarship to a young woman in the 2014 graduating class. Applicants must be residents of Washington County and demonstrate their involvement in their local community. Applications are available at Hardin’s Jewelry or from WCHS or Bethlehem High School guidance counselors. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on May 9.

River of Life Women’s Conference
River of Life Community Church will host a Women’s Conference on May 10, titled “Spring Cleaning Our Spiritual Houses”. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. for registration and light refreshments. The conference will begin at 9 a.m. We have some wonderful women from around the state lined up to bring us a fresh approach to God’s word, a time of praise and worship, and a time of fellowship during our noon time meal. Flatlick Express
The Mackville Community Center presents “Flatlick Express” on May 10, at the Mackville Community Center. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with food concessions available for purchase and the show starts at 7 p.m. The band plays Bluegrass and Bluegrass gospel music. Bloomfield 5K Run to Remember

Kentucky Public Retirees, Lincoln Trail Chapter, will hold its monthly meeting May 12, at Ryan’s Family Steak House in Elizabethtown, Ky.  Ryan’s is located at 1034 Executive Drive. The meeting begins at 11:30 a.m. EST with lunch. A legislative update is planned.

10K Race
McDowell Wellness Center will be hosting its Eleventh Annual 10K run on May 17. The race begins at 8 a.m. at McDowell Wellness Center, located at 1107 Ben Ali Drive in Danville.
