 Summer Food Program

The WC Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program at WCHS, June 4-July 27, closed July 4. Breakfast 8:30-9 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; Springfield Housing Authority, June 4-July 27, closed July 4. Lunch only 12-12:30 Monday-Friday. 

 

June 8-9

Yard Sale

There will be a yard sale Friday, June 8, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 9, from 7 a.m. to noon at 4 Dragons Dojo (adjacent to IGA and Fred’s). All proceeds go to Cub Scout Pack #429.

 

Relay for Life

Relay for Life will be held Friday, June 8 and Saturday, June 9 at St. Catharine College. The opening and survivor ceremony will be held at 7 p.m., the luminaria ceremony will be held at 10 p.m. and the closing ceremony will be at 7 a.m. Saturday morning. Lots of entertainment and games.

ACT Testing

The June 9, 2012 ACT, formerly scheduled to be held at Marion County High School, will be held at the Marion County Technology Center.  Please report to the Marion County ATC by 7:45.

  

Boone’s Horse Ride Benefit

Boone’s Horse Ride and Auction will be held Saturday, June 9 to cover medical expenses for Bobby Mattingly. The ride leaves at 11 a.m. at Fred Boone’s, 5690 New Hope Road, New Haven with a live auction at 5:30 p.m. For ride information call Fred Boone (502) 331-8397.

Local Artists

If you missed the Art Walk in May, please visit the Art Studio at 112 N. Cross Main St. to see paintings by local artists on Sunday, June 10 from 3-5 p.m.

 

Speed Devine Family Reunion

Monday, June 11

Red Cross Blood Mobile

The regular visit of the American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be at the Springfield Baptist Church on Monday, June 11, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. Summer is traditionally a time when blood supplies are lowest, but the most needed. This visit will give us the opportunity to do our part to build up the blood supply before the summer need becomes too great.

 Volleyball Clinic

Washington County Commanderette volleyball clinic will be held June 11, 12 and 13 from 9-11:30 a.m. in the middle school gym. Any girl in grades 3-8 can participate. Please contact Anne Mudd at 336-5475 or 481-4445. 

 

Wednesday, June 13

Free Health Fair

There will be a free health fair for stroke risk fasting screening, adults age 18 and older, on Wednesday, June 13, 8 a.m. to noon. Must fast 12 hours prior to test. For an appointment call (859) 481-3005. Walk-ins welcome.  

 

Friday, June 15

Community-wide survey

The Washington County Heartland Youth Coalition in conjunction with REACH of Louisville will be conducting a community-wide survey of adults to help us gain a better picture of the beliefs surrounding alcohol use in Washington County. Surveys will be going out to 700 random homes the week of May 28. Please fill out the survey and return in the self-addressed envelope by June 15. There will be a card inside and if you return that card to any location listed, you will be entered for a chance to win either a $100 Wal-Mart gift card or one of three Kindle e-book readers. Drop off locations are: Springfield State Bank (Springfield, Willisburg, Mackville), WC Extension Office or WC Community Action.

 

Saturday, June 16 

Distinguished Young Women

The 2013 Distinguished Young Women of Washington County program will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at the Washington County High School gym. Seventeen young women will participate for the title. Advance tickets will be sold at Nancy’s Place, Springfield State Bank, US Bank and BB&T Bank in Springfield. 

 

Contemplative Prayer Day

St. Catharine Motherhouse is having its monthly Contemplative Prayer Day on June 16, 2012, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everyone interested in learning about or practicing  contemplative prayer is invited. The day includes contemplative prayer sessions, contemplative walking, silence, an experience of Lectio Divina facilitated by Sr. Mary Otho Ballard, OP, discussion of the Scripture used for Lectio, personal prayer, sharing about the day and a blessing. GED Test

Friday, June 22

Wrestling Show

Mackville Community Center will be hosting a wrestling show on Friday, June 22. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available. The show is family friendly for all ages.

 

Farmers Market Jamboree

The Farmers Market Jamboree is an annual event where you can come to eat locally grown food from the grill, sample desserts from the Homemakers, listen to music by the Wheeler family and Dan Kelly and get to know the vendor families who sell weekly at the market. 

Bring lawn chairs for an evening out at the Springfield Farmers Market at the Depot on Friday, June 22 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Tuesday, July 3

Honoring our Veterans

The City of Springfield will host the annual Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday evening, July 3 in Court Square. Veterans will be honored at the annual parade starting at 7 p.m. The Bluegrass Corvette Club will provide transportation for veterans in the parade. Veterans who wish to ride in the Corvettes are asked to call 859-336-5412, ext. 2 to insure enough cars are provided.
