Summer Food Program

The WC Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program at WCHS, June 4-July 27, closed July 4. Breakfast 8:30-9 a.m. and Lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday; Springfield Housing Authority, June 4-July 27, closed July 4. Lunch only 12-12:30 Monday-Friday. 


Wednesday, June 13

Springfield Water Commission Meeting

The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 13 at the water office. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.


Thursday, June 14

Airport Board Meeting

The Marion-Washington County Airport Board monthly meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at the Airport Terminal, 650 Airport Lane.


Friday, June 15

Community-wide Survey 

The Washington County Heartland Youth Coalition in conjunction with REACH of Louisville will be conducting a community-wide survey of adults to help us gain a better picture of the beliefs surrounding alcohol use in Washington County. Surveys will be going out to 700 random homes the week of May 28. Please fill out the survey and return in the self-addressed envelope by June 15. There will be a card inside and if you return that card to any location listed, you will be entered for a chance to win either a $100 Wal-Mart gift card or one of three Kindle e-book readers. Drop off locations are: Springfield State Bank (Springfield, Willisburg, Mackville), WC Extension Office or WC Community Action.


Saturday, June 16 

Distinguished Young Women

The 2013 Distinguished Young Women of Washington County Program will be held Saturday, June 16 at 7 p.m. at the Washington County High School Gym. Seventeen young women will participate for the title. Advance tickets will be sold at Nancy’s Place, Springfield State Bank, US Bank and BB&T Bank in Springfield. 


Contemplative Prayer Day

St. Catharine Motherhouse is having its monthly Contemplative Prayer Day on June 16, 2012, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Everyone interested in learning about or practicing  contemplative prayer is invited. The day includes contemplative prayer sessions, contemplative walking, silence, an experience of Lectio Divina facilitated by Sr. Mary Otho Ballard, OP, discussion of the Scripture used for Lectio, personal prayer, sharing about the day and a blessing. Groundbreaking Ceremony

Washington County Board of Education will have a groundbreaking ceremony on June 18, 2012 at 5 p.m. for the new Washington County High School.

Vacation Bible School

New Beginnings Community Church will be having Vacation Bible School from June 18 through 22 at 6:30 p.m. Van transportation available. For more information call 859-336-0326.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission will meet on Tuesday, June 19, at 5:30 p.m. to review the building permit and plans for the new Washington County High School. The plans will be available at the meeting for viewing.

Southern Gospel Quartet

The Inspirations Southern Gospel Quartet from Bryson City, N.C. will be in concert Thursday, June 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Willisburg Christian Church. Everyone is welcome.


Friday, June 22

Wrestling Show

Mackville Community Center will be hosting a wrestling show on Friday, June 22. Show time is 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Concessions will be available. The show is family friendly for all ages.

St. Gregory’s Social & Super Raffle

St. Gregory’s Social & Super Raffle will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Samuels with dinner, cake wheel, pull tabs, silent auction and raffle. Drawing is at 8:45 p.m; need not be present to win. Tickets on sale now at St. Gregory Parish Office; call (502) 348-6337.

Maud School Reunion

The Maud School Reunion will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, at New Hope Baptist Church. Potluck lunch will be served.

St. Dominic VBS

St. Dominic Church will be having Vacation Bible School June 26-28 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon each day. All children ages 3-12 are welcome. For more information please call 336-3569.


Thursday, June 28

Annual Rabies Clinic

The WC Health Department, in cooperation with the Springfield Animal Clinic and WC Fiscal Court will hold its annual animal rabies clinic on Thursday, June 28, 5-7 p.m. at Washington County High School. Cost of vaccination will be $3.50 per animal for WC residents only, $7 for out of county animals. Cash only will be accepted. This will be the only clinic this summer and only cats and dogs will be vaccinated. The animal will receive a vaccine that is good for one year only.

Honoring our Veterans

The City of Springfield will host the annual Independence Day Celebration on Tuesday evening, July 3 in Court Square. Veterans will be honored at the annual parade starting at 7 p.m. The Bluegrass Corvette Club will provide transportation for veterans in the parade. Veterans who wish to ride in the Corvettes are asked to call 859-336-5412, ext. 2 to insure enough cars are provided.
