Washington County Summer Feeding Program
The Washington County Board of Education is participating in the Summer Food Service Program through Aug. 1, 2014. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Hot lunch meals will be provided at the site and time listed below:
Washington County High School
Breakfast-8:30 a.m.- 9:30 a.m.
Lunch-11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
Springfield Housing Authority
Lunch, noon-12:30 p.m.
Any child that has not reached their 19th birthday is eligible for a meal. Meals can be provided to many groups throughout the county. Bible Schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Church Groups, etc. should call Washington County Board of Education at 336-5470 and speak to Regina Hood for more information.
Parkinson’s Support Group-Bardstown
The meeting will be Aug. 20 at BJ’s in Bardstown. Meetings are open to all touched by Parkinson’s including patient, caregiver, family and friends.

All the WCHS events will be held at the current high school building.
July 31-Aug. 1
Washington County High School will have class registration for the 2014-15 school year on Thursday, July 31 for seniors from 9 a.m.- noon and juniors from 1 - 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 the times are sophomores from 9 a.m.- noon and freshmen from 1 - 4 p.m. Please be prepared to pay class fees, locker fees, AP fees and college course/dual credit fees at this time. Also underclassmen school pictures will be taken at this time and are available for purchase. Registration paperwork will also be completed on this date. Any new high school student entering the Washington County School District this school year should contact the guidance office at 859-366-5475 to schedule an appointment for new student registration.
Saturday, Aug. 2
Holy Rosary Homecoming
The annual Holy Rosary Homecoming will be Saturday, Aug. 2 on the church grounds. Booths and activities will be from 4-11 p.m. with dinner served 4-8:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to church funds.
WCHS volleyball bake sale
The Commanderette Volleyball team will be conducting a bake sale at IGA on Saturday, Aug. 2 starting at 8 a.m. All proceeds go to the WCHS volleyball team.
Sunday, Aug. 3
Back to School Bash
Cornerstone Christian Church will host a Back-to-School Bash on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, 2-4 p.m. 805 Bardstown Rd. Suite 17 (next to Save-a-Lot).
Free packed back packs with school supplies for the first 250 kids grades K-5.
There will be free drinks, snacks and games for the whole family.
Monday, Aug. 4
Washington County Middle School open house Monday, Aug. 4, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. 6th grade orientation meeting will begin at 6 p.m.
Washington County Elementary School will be hosting 1st through 5th grade open house on Monday, Aug. 4 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. Please drop by anytime during this time frame to meet your teacher and see your classroom. School supplies may be brought in at this time.
The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be at the Family Life Center of the Springfield Baptist Church on Monday, Aug. 4, for its regularly scheduled visit from noon until 5 p.m.
We would like for regular donors to notice that this is the first Monday of the month instead of the second Monday, but this date does allow donors to qualify for the 56-day requirement for eligibility to donate blood.
An urgent appeal for blood is always issued in the summer since people are vacationing and sometimes miss their regular donation times, so we encourage all who are available to come give the gift of life.

Mother Goose story time

Back-to-Schoo Water Bash
The Washington County Public Library will host a Back-to-School Water Bash on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 2:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 7
Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social
Springfield United Methodist Church will host our annual Ice Cream Social on Aug. 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the lawn. All homemade ice cream and deserts will be available. Everyone welcome.
Friday, Aug. 8
Loretto Motherhouse will host a concert on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at 7 p.m. Adrienne Fontenot, piano, Michelle Gilfert, clarinet, and Allen Gilfert, recorder will perform. The program will include composers Handel - sonatas for recorder and keyboard; Schumann - Fantasiestucke, Op. 73, for clarinet and piano; and Brahms - Sonata in E-flat, Op 120 No. 2, for clarinet and piano. Admission free, all are welcome.
Help SCC students
St. Catharine College needs to get community volunteers for their move-in days of Aug. 10, 11 and 12. Volunteers are needed for the following tasks: door greeter to welcome students and families and guidance to stations/locations, elevator operator to monitor elevators and open doors for those moving in and student assistance to help with moving items in. This may require some physical labor.
Shifts Available that will need workers are Sunday, Aug. 10, 12-2 p.m. and 2- 4 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 11 and 12, 1:30-3:30 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Kentucky Public Retirees, Lincoln Trail Chapter, will hold its monthly meeting Monday, Aug. 11 at Ryan’s Family Steak House in Elizabethtown. Ryan’s is located at 1034 Executive Drive. Meeting begins at 11:30 EST with lunch.
