Volunteers Needed

Harvest Festival Parade

The Springfield-Washington County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting entries for the annual Harvest Festival parade. The parade will be held in downtown Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. We welcome floats, cars, trucks, ATVs, walkers, mascots, etc. There will be a "most creative float" contest. If you would like to submit a parade entry, or need additional information, please call the Chamber of Commerce office at 859-336-3180 ext. 1.

Washington County Fair Entries

Turn in entries from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Washington County Senior Citizens Building on Oct. 4.  Entries will be on display from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 5.  Entries must be picked up between 3-4 p.m. For more information, call Krista Thompson at 859-284-5524 or the WC Extension Office at 859-336-7742.

Anchor of Hope

A revival will be held at the Anchor of Hope Church, Hwy. 555, Willisburg from Sept. 23-27 with services beginning at 7 p.m. Rev. Tommy Hutchins, of Rutherford, N.C., will be the speaker.  For more information, contact Pastor Ricky Cheatham at 859-805-1492.

Mattingly and Spalding
The Mattingly and Spalding annual family reunion will be held Sept. 27-28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, South Spalding Avenue, in Lebanon.  A fish fry will be held Friday night at 6 p.m. The main meal will be served Saturday at 6 p.m. A family picnic and cook out will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Graham Memorial Park in Lebanon.  The pavilion is on Park Drive. Cancel if there is rain. Families and friends are welcome.

Walk for Life 2013
The House of Hope is hosting their Celebration of Life 10th Annual Walk on Sept. 28 at Idle Hour park from 12-5 p.m. For more information, please call us at 859-336-0140 or come by the office at 116 S. Cross Main St.  All donations are tax deductible and go towards serving the babies, their mothers and families in our community.

Cumbo’s Old Gospel Barn
There will be a 20-year anniversary reunion celebration on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Cumbo’s Old Gospel Barn, 1186 Louisville Rd., Cox’s Creek, Ky.  Music by Carol Royalty, Bill Donovan, The Carneys, Philip Ingram, Clyde McKinney and the Cumbo family. Everyone is invited.

Mt. Olivet Baptist Church “F4”

Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, located at 1403 Tatham Springs Rd. in Willisburg, is starting a new ministry program on Sunday, Sept. 29 entitled “F4” (Faith, Food and Fun 4 Families).  We will kick off this event with a cookout starting at noon.  Afternoon events will include outdoor activities for the children and youth, followed by music, skits, Bible study and dessert time for all ages.  This event is open to anyone who would like to come and join in the fun and fellowship.

Washington County Proud Night
The WC Fair will be having a WC Proud Night at the WC Extension Office.  There will be a small animal swap (no cats or dogs) and local “Kentucky Proud” products will be on display from 4-8 p.m.  We will have BBQ pork sandwiches, potato salad, baked beans and a drink from 4:30-7 p.m. (call for pricing).  The Washington County Homemakers will have a bake sale.  There will also be a doll contest and farm scapes display contest, set up from 1-4 p.m., with judging at 4 p.m. and on display until 8 p.m. For more information, call Krista Thompson 859-284-5524 or the Washington County Extension Office at 859-336-7741.

Bardstown Craft Beer Festival

The inaugural Bardstown Craft Beer Festival will be held on Oct. 12 from 4-8 p.m. at the Nelson County Farmers’ Market Pavilion.  Tickets  are available on the website or at local businesses.  Please contact Sierra Enlow or Nicholas Heaton at sierra.enlow@gmail.com for further information.

The classes of 1973 and 1974 will be having a 39- and 40-year class reunion at Mordecai’s Restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 5 starting at 6 p.m.

Free Pentecostal Church Homecoming
The Free Pentecostal Church will be having a homecoming on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at 6143 Chaplin Rd, Willisburg.  Guest speaker will be Bro. Hamilton Family Reunion
The Ed and Imelda Hamilton family reunion will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, 12:30 p.m., at St. Rose School. Please bring a side dish or dessert.  Meat will be provided.

Springfield Water Company
The Springfield Water Company will be flushing hydrants, weather permitting, throughout the city on Monday, Oct. 7, Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and may extend into the county Thursday, Oct. 10 and Friday, Oct. 11.  This may cause a temporary discoloration of the water.  We ask that you refrain from washing clothes or any use that the discoloration may affect. We appreciate your cooperation.

Washington County Conservation District Field Day
The WC Conservation District will be hosting a field day to showcase the grade stabilization and Ag Waste Control Facilities (stackpad) practices.  The field day will be held on Oct. 8, at 8765 Bloomfield Rd. in Springfield with the tour starting at 5 p.m. and meal following.   Representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service will be there to provide guidance and information about the projects.  Anyone interested in attending is asked to RSVP to the Washington County Conservation District by Oct. 7 at 859-336-7777.

Class of 1988 Reunion
The WCHS Class of 1988 will be having their 25-year reunion on Friday, Oct. 11, from 8 p.m.- midnight at Mordecai’s in Springfield. There will be a DJ, food and cash bar.  Please text or call for costs at 502-544-6006.

Mid-Kentucky Arts
Mid-Kentucky Arts opens its music season with “Take Me Home Country Roads,” the music of John Denver and Emmylou Harris on Friday, Oct 11 and Saturday, Oct 12. Well-known musicians Gary Vidito and Rene Buckman sing your favorites of these two artists.  The Oct. 11 performance will be in Lebanon at Centre Square, at 7:30 p.m.  The performance on Oct. 12 will be in Springfield at Mordecai’s on Main St. at 7:30 p.m.  Reserved seating is available. The Washington County High School Class of 1983 will be having their 30th Class Reunion on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Old Louisville Store, Main St., Springfield.
