Summer Reading Finale

The summer reading finale will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Lebanon Aquatic Center. Splish and splash in the pool to rinse all the dirt of the library’s summer reading program off! Tickets required to gain access. Call 336-7655 for more information.

Tree Planting

WCHS student Amanda Dewitt is hosting a tree planting ceremony in memory of Austin McBride on Thursday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. It will be held at Washington County High School in the yard adjacent to Lincoln Park Road. All friends and family are welcome to attend.

Understanding Sports Concussions

The Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky, along with Bob O’Daniel, will host an event entitled, Understanding Sports Concussions at 6 p.m., Thursday, July 25, at Angelic Hall in Lebanon. The event will help those attending to identify symptoms consistent with a concussion and how to properly treat the athlete who has signs of a concussion.

Speakers will include Dr. Tad Seifert, a sports physician with Norton Healthcare who is an expert on sports concussions and brain injury. Dr. Seifert will address the symptoms of a possible concussion, the treatment for a concussion and the possible side effects of a concussion.

Julian Tackett, the commissioner of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, will address sports concussions and the free online training that is available to all coaches at www.kyconcussions.com. This event is free and open to the public.

MC Youth Soccer

Marion County Youth Soccer Association will be taking Fall soccer signups on July 27 and August 3 from 9-12 at the Graham Memorial Park Soccer Complex concession stand on Fairground Rd in Lebanon. Registration deadline is Aug. 6. Meet and Greet Sen. Rand Paul

On Saturday, July 27, from 1-3 p.m. Sen. Rand Paul will be at Saint Catherine College in the Hundley Library for a Meet and Greet event sponsored by the Heart of Kentucky GOP, a Republican organization with members from Marion, Mercer, Nelson, Taylor and Washington  counties. Primetime Wrestling

The Mackville Community Center and the Mackville Lions Club in partnership with Primetime Wrestling will be hosting a wrestling match Saturday, July 27. Doors open at 7 p.m., match at 8 p.m. Special guest will be Bill Dundee. Concessions will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the Mackville Community Center.

Southern Gospel Concert

The Legendary, Archie Watkins & Smoky Mountain Reunion, formerly the Inspirations Quartet, along with the Good Shepherd Quartet and the Sneed Family will be in concert at the Cave City Convention Center in Cave City, on Saturday, July 27 at 7 p.m. For more information contact Jeff Sneed at 270-678-3575

Auditions

Audition for Central KY Community Theatre Main Stage production of the classic "Frankenstein" will be held Monday, July 29 at 6 p.m. in the Opera House basement, Main Street, Springfield. Cast consists of four male and four female characters ranging 21 to 70 years. This chilling tale runs Oct. 25,26,27 and Nov. 1,2,3, directed by Main Stage 2013 Best Show director, Eric Diersing. The City of Springfield’s Independence Day Celebration scheduled for Friday evening, July 5 was cancelled due to inclement weather. The fireworks show will be rescheduled for Friday, Aug. 2, at dusk during the African American Heritage Festival.
