The North Washington eighth-grade girls claimed the NIT tournament championship last week to take the MKAC conference crown.
The Patriots blew out Bloomfield 46-23 in the championship game after the score was tied at 13 at halftime.
Bernard Smalley’s team outscored Bloomfield 19-5 in the third quarter to take the lead, and they never looked back.
MaKayla Baker led the way with 20 points in the title game, followed by Megan Cloyd’s 13. Kaylee Noel and Haley Grigsby each pitched in six points, while Haylee Graves’ one point rounded out the scoring.
North Washington defeated New Haven, 30-15, in the first round and St. Catherine, 28-25, in the semifinals of the tourney.
The Patriots won 11 of their final 13 games to finish the season with a 14-8 record following a 3-6 start.
The seventh-grade girls, coached by Whitney Bowen, had a strong showing as well, posting a runner-up finish.
They fell to St. Catherine in the championship game, 34-20, finishing the year with a 10-9 record.
The seventh grade knocked off New Haven in the first round of their tournament, and advanced to the final with an exciting 38-36 double-overtime victory over Washington County Middle School in the semifinals.
Baker was again the leading scorer for North Washington in the title game of that tournament, putting up eight points. Graves added six, while Aleera Lawson pitched in with four and Maddie Riley, two.
