Party ends with a bang

At least ‘2 shots’ taken by partier who fired .38 bullet into his own foot

A party ended with a bang last week after a Springfield man reportedly fired two shots with a pistol —  sending one bullet through his foot.

Springfield Police say Kevin Newsome, 45, 3651 Bloomfield Rd, arrived intoxicated and injured at the downtown station about 2 a.m., on Jan. 21, to report the injury.

He suffered self-inflicted shots to his right foot and was transported to Spring View Hospital in Lebanon by EMS.

Newsome told officers he was at a friend’s house earlier that evening when he was accused of grabbing a woman’s butt and groping other women, according to police reports.

Witnesses say they asked Newsome to leave the party at 146 Lebanon Hill Rd., and party-goers confiscated his .38 revolver, which then provoked a fight, according to police reports.

After Newsome appeared calmer, witnesses say they returned his gun, but minutes later, he fired the gun at least once in a bathroom above the head of a witness, according to police reports.

Newsome then entered the living room, witnesses said, where he fired another round into his foot.

Newsome is charged with wanton endangerment.
