A pair of St. Catharine College infielders were recently awarded Gold Glove awards for their excellent defensive play in the Mid-South Conference. Senior Justin Witt, who played both second base and third base, and junior shortstop Ryan Mangione were the recipients of the honor.
“Justin Witt may be the best defensive player we’ve had here,” said Luther Bramblett, who just completed his ninth year as the Patriots’ skipper. “And Ryan Mangione committed just two errors in 31 conference games.”
Witt, from Louisville’s Pleasure Ridge Park High School, ended the season with a fielding average of .967. He made just six errors in 183 chances and was in on 23 double plays.
Mangione, a Tates Creek High School product, compiled a .955 fielding average. He made 10 errors in 222 chances and turned in 26 double plays.
