Bradley Medley and Ryan Puckett made history Saturday as the first two St. Catharine College athletes to compete in a cross country meet. Medley and Puckett, both freshmen, ran in the Southeastern Classic at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville. And while the Patriot pair didn’t make a run at the leaders in the 8K race, St. Catharine coach Collin Kinsey was pleased with the results.

“They did really well and beat a lot of the competitors who were there from the Mid-South Conference,” said Kinsey. “Both of them are really better in track and field than cross country so they did well considering that.”

Medley, from Nelson County High School, completed the 8K course (4.9 miles) in 31 minutes and 39 seconds. Puckett, from Harrison County High School, was close behind with a time of 31:42. Medley and Puckett finished 184 and 186 respectively in the field of 216 runners.

“It was good experience for them,” added Kinsey. The conference meet will be on the same course Nov. 7th, so it was good for them to get to run the course before then.”
