SCC Sports Information
The St. Catharine College basketball season began last Monday on a good note as Lena Bramblett’s Patriots won 75-64 at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield. But the following night in Jackson, Tenn., the Patriots tangled with the nation’s top rated team and fell 85-39 to Union University.
Danielle Brown led the way in the opening victory as the senior center from Hodgenville scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Off the bench, Taylor Oliver added eight points and had six rebounds. Machera Calhoun, a freshman from Ft. Myers, Fla., had six assists in her college debut.
The going got much tougher Tuesday at Union as the Patriots fell behind 44-10 at halftime due to 3-25 shooting from the field. That field goal accuracy improved dramatically in the second half as the Patriots shot 46 percent (11-24).
No Patriot players reached double figures in the loss. Brow was again the leading scorer with seven points
The Patriots hosted Midway College last night in the home opener. They are at Indiana University-Southeast tonight. Saturday they travel to Murray State to take on the D-I Racers in an exhibition game. The Patriots return home Tuesday to play Berea College starting at 6 p.m.
