A lot of baseball games were scheduled last week for the St. Catharine College Patriots. But due to the cold rainy weather, Luther Bramblett’s Bat Pats were only able to get one game played. That resulted in a 13-6 win last Thursday over the visiting Asbury College Eagles.

The Eagles (10-14) scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead, but it was short lived. The Patriots scored three times in the third inning and, after Asbury regained the lead 5-4, the Patriots took the lead for good with a four-run fourth inning. They added four more in the sixth frame and one in the seventh. Asbury added their final run in the ninth inning.

Brian Jones, a sophomore infielder/pitcher from Scottsville, was the offensive star of the day for the Patriots. Jones had four hits for the day including two home runs and a double. Josh Landers had three hits in the winning effort including a double and a homer. Shane Young and Chris Smith also had two hits each.

Nick Holmes (2-1) was the winning pitcher as he came in in the third inning in relief of starter Dustin Lewis. Holmes allowed two hits and one unearned run in three innings of work. Travis Adams picked up his first save of the season with four innings of one-run, four-hit ball.

The Patriots (21-7) are back on the diamond today with a home game against Berea College. They return to conference action Friday and Saturday when they host Lindsey Wilson in a pair of doubleheaders. Tuesday they travel to IU Southeast.
