In a ceremony held last Wednesday evening in the gym at Lourdes Hall, St. Catharine College unveiled championship banners to commemorate the 2009 national titles won by both the Patriot baseball and softball teams.
First, head softball coach Holly Smith took the stage to introduce returning team members from the championship squad. The team intro was followed by a slide show from the title game, accompanied by a play-by-play re-enactment of the final at-bats.
Next, head baseball coach Luther Bramblett introduced his championship team, followed by a slide show and a recap of the win by second baseman Justin Witt.
The Pats were ineligible for Mid-South Conference competition during their play-in year. Athletic director Mike Doig decided to have the teams compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.
Although both teams are champs, they will not have the chance to repeat their titles as they will compete in The Mid-South Conference this year.
