Patriots place 13th in golf tournament

It wasn’t exactly a lucky number when the St. Catharine College Patriots finished 13th last week in the Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational Golf Tournament. The University of the Cumberlands hosted the tournament at Crooked Creek Golf Course.

The Patriots were ninth in the 19 team field after the first day of play Thursday as they shot a 317 total. But on Friday they carded a 344 which sent them to 13th place.

Aaron Darby led the way in the first round with a 73. Adam Nolte had an 80 while Alex Carey and Scott Johnson had an 81 and 83 respectively.

On Friday it was Nolte who paced the Patriots with a 77. Todd Bruington had an 87. Darby had an 89 and Carey a 91.

The host Cumberlands won the tournament with a 601 (299-302).Indian Wesleyan was second with a with a two-day total of 607 (295-312). Walters State was third at 614 (307-307). Of the other Mid-South Conference schools participating, Lindsey Wilson had the best showing with a 632 which was good for sixth place. Campbellsville’s 655 put them in 12th place just six shots ahead of the Patriots’ 661. Georgetown was 16th with a 667 and Pikeville finished last with a 704 total.

The Patriots will play at Cherry Blossom Golf Course Thursday in a tournament hosted by Georgetown College.
