A man was arrested Friday afternoon following a short chase by Kentucky State Police.
Trooper Fred Cornett was called to 1839 Simmstown Road in reference to a collision. KSP Post 15 in Columbia received a call that a drunk driver had driven a vehicle through a fence. The property owner blocked the vehicle in, keeping the driver from leaving.
When Tpr. Cornett arrived, he tried to get the driver, 22-year-old James D. Nall, of Georgetown, Ky., out of the car. Nall refused to get out, and attempted to flee the scene. According to conversations on police radio at the time of the incident, Nall had attempted to strike Cornett with his vehicle. He narrowly missed striking Cornett, who then gave chase.
After a short vehicle pursuit, Nall crashed the pickup truck he was driving, and he was arrested without further incident.
Nall was charged with assault 3rd degree of a police/probation officer; driving under the influence (1st offense) aggravated; fleeing/evading 1st; fleeing/evading 2nd; no seatbelt; wanton endangerment 1st; reckless driving; resisting arrest; no insurance and failure to produce an insurance card.
Nall was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center, where he remained at press time under a bond of $1,000 cash.
Trooper Cornett continues to investigate.
