It's been a long, cold winter, and chances are pretty good that area golfers are looking for an excuse to hit the links. Now is the time to dust of your clubs and tee off for a great cause at the same time.

The Washington County Relay for Life Golf Scramble will take place at Lincoln Homestead State Park on May 9. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start gets underway at 9 a.m. with prizes awarded for first and second place.

Four-player teams with a minimum handicap of 40 may enter. The tax-deductible entry fee is $200 per team. Participation is limited to the first 32 teams who register. Deadline for registration is April 25.

Additional prizes will be awarded for the longest drive on the sixth hole, closest to the pin on the eighth hole and the straightest drive on the 18th hole.

Lunch will be served at the turn.

All proceeds will benefit the Washington County Relay for Life, which will be held June 12-13 at St. Catharine College in Springfield. Relay for Life is the flagship event for the American Cancer Society.

Opportunities are available for hole sponsors as well as non-golfers who wish to donate to the event.
